Fun fact: if you have GPS location services enabled, your Wi-Fi SSID is currently leaking. #privacy

@gmate8 Even if you don't, other people will walk by and have it sent to big tech anyway. There is a way to opt out but I don't know how effective it is.

@AdamOnLinux I was always fascinated and the same way curious about satellite tracking. Even if we are "100%" protected, if we use GPS, a satellite is a huge man in the middle to leak our information to. And it does even matter where country did that satellite came from. USA, China, Russia, whatever.. #privacy

GPS satellites don't receive stuff from GPS devices. When using GPS by itself the device determines location by comparing the signals it can detect from the satellites.
The satellites themselves don't track the device, it's the other way around.

The privacy issues with locations services come from the other methods used to determine location, like Wi-Fi and cellular networks.

@jeruyyap @gmate8 @AdamOnLinux I always laugh when I see the security cases on things in shops that say "GPS Tracked" because I'm pretty sure they lack GPS hardware let alone the other required hardware to actually send the location data anywhere.

I doubt they're putting a GPS receiver and a cellular modem in a case for a bottle of booze or a dvd.
