It’s time for the annual desk reorganising-and-recabling-athon
@joenash God help you. Be strong!
@joenash I'm in the same place. I keep mulling over the idea of some kind of net I can drape under the back edge of my desk.
@joenash Ideally, the front edge of the net could be unfastened and dropped and then reattached again.
@sjfloat YES, I was talking about this with my partner last time I did this, because she’s nifty with a sewing machine. It absolutely seems like there should be some kind of flexible/fabric cable organiser that hangs on the back of a desk, but it seems an odd market gap
@joenash Seems like an automotive cargo net could be adapted to this somehow.
@joenash Another option I've considered is just fixing a cargo net tightly to the entire under-surface of the desk. Then it could keep any cabling from hanging down anywhere along its length. And you could just fish cables through the netting.
@joenash And if you felt that it was needed, you could tie cables to the net.
@sjfloat the net seems a much more flexible solution than those metal wire baskets that seem to be the go to item on sale for this
@joenash Yeah. I have these and other cabling solutions I've bought that didn't *quite* do what I wanted.
@joenash Another thought would be to just add a thin false bottom the the desk with thin spacers and run the cables on top of this. But it raise the minimum height you could set the desk to and limit access and visibility to the cables.
@sjfloat now we’re cooking with gas. This makes me want to do one of those “the desk IS the pc case” builds…
@sjfloat ah my desk came with one of those, it’s an ikea standing desk so has one to contain the cabling for the motor, that comes in handy for other cables. But I really want one for the back edge to the floor, for all the cables coming from pc/power adapters and up
