I came to the pro-biking rally at Queen’s Park this evening. It was good — great speakers, tight messaging, and then to drive the point home, all 800 or so of us rode in a loop past three Ghost Bikes marking where bikers were killed before safer infrastructure was built — infrastructure that Ford wants to rip out now.

I know there were a few fedi-folk there, but the only one I recognized was @mbonsma who was pretty hard to miss riding her car-scale bicycle. We chatted a bit about cargo bikes. The best part was watching her navigate downtown streets during the ride. What a pro. Everywhere we went people looked confused, then figured out the point of it and cheered and waved at her.

The thing about Ford’s proposed attack on safe street infrastructure is that (aside from the excess death and injury that will result), it can’t even achieve its stated goals — to reduce congestion for drivers (who to him are the only people who matter, of course). Bike lanes reduce congestion (as does good regional transit, which would be a better use of his time)
@jvschrag @mbonsma Thanks for posting these! I was there and I think I see @FlyingTrilobite in this pic? Also pretty sure that @pauldotbike was there as well. FediBikes represent!
