maegul

wants to have private communities!

See lemmy.ml/post/12014733

> Private spaces are a fundamental aspect of human communication. They allow discussing sensitive topics without interruption from outsiders. Supporting private communities in Lemmy gives a major new use case for talking among friends or within organizations. This use case is currently not covered by major Fediverse projects.

Novel for the it seems.

lemmy.mlRFC for Private Communities in Lemmy - Lemmy

@maegul “groups” that has been talked about as a general shared spec has that as a use case.

Making that work across systems would be most powerful but also hard to coordinate.

@boris

I don't know how secure-able it would be but doing this over federation sounds naturally fraught to me ... ?

@boris Though they've added local only groups/communities first (not shipped yet AFAIK), so local + private would be an option and attractive for keeping things safer I presume.

@maegul Nope, at least Hubzilla and (streams) have both public and private forums. (streams) has had them since its inception (2021), and I think so did Hubzilla (2015).

Not sure about Friendica right now.
