"Wait... I own TSLA. Are you saying that I shouldn't protest?!"
*Deep sigh* No. I'm just saying (again) that you can't fight your own wallet.
I'm saying that if you go to a protest and are beaten by private security, that you paid for some of that private security. You Pinkerton-ed yourself.
Elon is not the richest man in the world because he sells the most cars. He doesn't sell nearly enough cars to be that rich.
Elon is the richest man in the world, because a lot of people (like you! ) own his stocks.
The easiest person for you to convince to own less of that stock, is yourself.
@mekkaokereke Tesla makes incredible electric cars... for the year 2017. Now, they are years behind. The stock is overvalued as hell. I wouldn't touch it.
@mdm @mekkaokereke No, they make shitty Android-quality tablets full of spyware with a shitty half-ass car attached as an afterthought. There has never been *anything* incredible about Teslas. Car people do not like them. Environmentalists do not like them. Only dumbass techno-futurist douchebros like them.
@mdm @mekkaokereke that's... Generous. QC on all Teslas after the original model S has always been terrible.
And the company has only been profitable because it sells Carbon Offsets since... Forever, I think.
If, like me, you don't actively manage your retirement fund, it can be intimidating to log in and try to figure out where your money is actually parked and how to move it. It took me well over an hour of navigating around until I figured out how I could divest from the part of my portfolio that includes Tesla. But in the end, I'm much more comfortable knowing that it's done, and I feel pretty good reinvesting internationally, given the way the world seems to be going.
Just the one fund, but finding it was tricky! They really don't want you digging into this stuff, I think.
Yeah, my 401(k) from one of my companies is 50% international, and I've just been letting it ride for years. At the moment, I feel good about that. (Apart from the fact that Nestle is probably causing African moms to feed their babies bad water, but, hey, at least they're Swiss!)
Yeah! Just because I don't recognize most of these companies doesn't mean they're inherently better than US corps, but the balance seems better -- by dumping the Tesla fund I'm also out of Meta, Alphabet, etc -- so that's a sort of comfort.
@sytharin @mekkaokereke Is there a good beginners guide to where to get started with this?
I think this article about divesting from fossil fuels probably applies here! Many ways to approach this issue.
