"Americans aren't confident in crypto. The crypto industry, however, says crypto is very important to Americans."
great to see such hard-hitting journalism from @politico
https://www.politico.com/news/2024/05/10/trump-crypto-biden-00157051
@molly0xfff @politico I was reading "crypto" as "cryptography" and was really confused what FTX had to do with it, until I realised ... :(
@molly0xfff @politico hey, give both sides, what else do you want? Sheesh!
I have a very high confidence that criminals will commit crimes.
Any similarity with my confidence in the crypto industry would be random chance
@molly0xfff @politico I've always found it... interesting... that the finance industry is such a big backer of the Democratic party. I mean, capital finance is not a traditional constituent of the Democratic party since (at latest) the New Deal, and this only changed when Clinton took the unions for granted, embraced the WTO and signed NAFTA. Will a resurgent labor movement be able to, er, "refinance" the Democratic party? Will the Democratic party be *willing* to take that money instead?
@molly0xfff @politico I'm sure it's true saying that crypto ownership is higher among younger people, as tech savviness and lack of financial experience are prerequisities.
I struggle to find out how they come up with ownership being higher in communities of color, since almost every crypto bro I know is a white guy.
Did they say "there are more crypto holders in Los Angeles than Lincoln, Nebraska. L.A. has higher percentage of people of POCs therefore it's a community of color"?
@FifiSch @molly0xfff @politico it's a misleading statistic (of course) they're saying that per capita ownership of bitcoin is more prevalent among young people and poc than it is among other groups.
Can't we just go back to Powerball lotteries?
@molly0xfff @politico that poll released by the Blockchain Assoc. is interesting in that it doesn’t really support their narrative:
https://theblockchainassociation.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/DCG_HarrisPoll-Research-Report.pdf
- 69% of respondents had a negative view of cryptocurrency
- Roughly half would be more likely to invest if there were gov’t protection (not sure how you do that if CODE is LAW)
- Only 41% say crypto “a new way towards financial security and prosperity”, and 35% think it’s “the future of transacting”.
- Only 26% of respondents even pay attention to candidates’ positions on crypto
- Only 21% think it’s a major issue they’ll consider in the next election
@molly0xfff @politico Hilariously naive take from politico. Regardless of how many people use it (a vanishingly small number), there's no political constituency for crypto scams and money laundering.
