in an effort to claw back a bit of control from the various “clouds” I got my Synology NAS to auto backup oneDrive and DropBox and got an “old” (m2) iMac that my former employer sold me to do backups of Photos (I keep my relevant documents in the other two also), I know Apple is likely not going away, but I can’t say the same about my account.
@perrito been thinking of building a small NAS from a 4 bay ssd rack and a nuc with nextcloud on it. It no longer feels safe to rely on cloud platforms.
@gabriel I wanted to pick my battles there :p I went for a Synology, they are solid enough (I have a 2 bay model), have 2 eths, does great work not killing the disks and supports external sources. Bonus points, they have an app that auto backups most commercial clouds. I even have docker running there with the controller soft for my Access points :p
@perrito I love Synology. If it's a model that comes with N100 it can even transcode family movies via Jellyfin.
