Some people missed this and I think it’s a big deal: the Passwords app on iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia lets you to save passwords without a website! It even allows you to import them from other password managers! When adding passwords, you can specify a website or a custom label, like “Router”, "Passport Number”, or “Garage Door”.
If you try importing your passwords before macOS Sequoia, you’ll run into this limitation. Hold tight—your brighter day will come. :) https://mastodon.social/@maddox/112802975432717333
@worf If you’re happy, I’m happy. It’s all just software.
@rmondello This is HUGE.
(…and thank you!)
@rmondello @flargh This is good to know. Life long 1Password fan here but tired of their subscription model. I’ve stuck with it out of pure laziness. But I have been plugging away at moving my passwords to the password app as I use them. I plan on unsubscribing this year.
@rmondello thank you!
If I want to migrate from another paaaword manager to Pasawords, should I do that pre-iOS 18 via iCloud Keychain, or wait for iOS 18 and the Passwords app?
I don’t have access to a macOS computer if that’s relevant.
@rmondello But does it also allow export everything for true backups?
The fact that Apple Passwords can import from other password managers is great. More important to me is can it export to a form that other password managers can import?
@rmondello has there been work done on the Windows counterpart?
But can I export them?
@rmondello I’m running the latest dev beta of iOS 18 and can’t find a way to import from 1Password: is this something coming soon or am I just missing it?
@rmondello Any idea if the Passwords app will support Legacy Contact access keys?
(That's why I switched from 1Password to BitWarden.)
@rmondello pls look into making the Chrome Extensions better. For eg, the simple ability to create a new password for a new website without being forced to go to Safari to do so
