Scott Hanselman 👸🏽🐝🌮

Here’s a thing I just learned. If you’re going through ORD (Chicago) and going from domestic to international, the little bus that takes you to terminal 5 and bypasses security is NOT RUNNING. You have to take the train AND pass security AND there’s no TSA Pre after 8pm so you’re walking 2km and passing security. Budget 2 hours. I had 47 min and made it by 30 seconds. Wow. Heart Rate is 148. Yikes.

@shanselman It's the last day of a four-day weekend - as the cliche goes, remember to pack your patience. 😉

@shanselman A friend of mine had the inverse of your ORD connection a few years ago and 3 hours was not enough time. He would have barely made it in 4 hours. I avoid ORD connections at literally all costs.
Count your blessings you made it!

@shanselman international flights from O'Hare are proper shite.

You never expect it to be a direct flight; I somehow thought we would stop in NY, _maybe_ Ireland.

Nope! It's a direct flight to London, all damn 9 hours of it. Buckle up and pucker up! 😑

@shanselman yeah, that BS is how we missed a connection last year. I broke my rule about never connecting through ORD it cost me a hotel stay and bus trip the next day.

@chrismerkel ya I’ll never make this mistake again. I usually go through EWR

@shanselman thank you Mr. Hanselman for not cross posting to Twitter.

@shanselman ORD works by making you walk to your final destination.

@shanselman Travel tip #2, don't go through ORD. 😀 (I've had similar experiences at CDG, so of course I'm flying through CDG this week to relive the experience.)

@shanselman Ugh…I HATE when travel does that to me. I always try to budget like 3 hours between arrival to the airport where I have a connection to an international flight. I usually spend the extra time in the #Delta lounges at said airport if there is is any extra time.

@shanselman catching short connecting flights is intense! On my first int. trip, I was coming back home from NYC via SFO to SYD etc, my layover was like 50 minutes.

Wouldn't be bad if the flight to SFO wasn't delayed by 20-30 minutes plus I wasn't sure if I needed to go through security again.

After walking like 30km the days prior around NYC, my legs were real sore but still tried to run my hardest for the flight.

SYD flight ended up being delayed so made it with time to spare!

@shanselman I've had nail-biting experiences on this route with 2 hours and even 2.5 hours for the international to domestic transfer. With only carry-on luggage, so no-recheck. It's a complete time-suck.

@shanselman This is exactly why I do everything I can to avoid transferring at ORD. Ever.

@shanselman I'm from Chicago's north side, but I still go out of my way to fly out of MDW on the south side instead. ORD is a nightmare. I've been through 35 airports, and ORD is my least favorite.
