imagine walking through the tenderloin, ignoring all the amazing restaurants, only focusing on 'shady things', and looking at people in pain and thinking THEY are the problem instead of the system that put them there
my favorite tenderloin moment is when rick desantis flew here, stood in a corner that was very much not really the tenderloin, and did his silly ad about how americans should vote for him so the rest of the country doesn't end up ***like this***
on the block where i.. often go to get coffee, snacks and other food with absolutely no problems other than maybe occasionally running into fascists
@skinnylatte Loving your defense of the Tenderloin! It has me recalling this article looking at the history of how that space was created and its various rebellions: https://placesjournal.org/article/transgender-resistance-and-prison-abolitionism-san-francisco-tenderloin/
@skinnylatte "this neighborhood is going to shit" me if i ever see desantis anywhere
My wife had a layover there last year and we were walking around near midnight
I kind of lost her and she was playing with someone's dog
Later she asked me where that really bad neighborhood that everyone talks about is and told her that's where she was playing fetch with the dog!
Not at all what she expected lol
@skinnylatte Someone tried to pick my pocket there and then I got amazing pho around the corner.
@skinnylatte the tenderloin has some of the best food in the city! I recently went to Hai Ky Mi Gia on your recommendation and it did not disappoint!
@skinnylatte One of the things that makes me miss SF is the lunches I used to get there with a friend who was working nearby.
@skinnylatte christ, what an asshole.
@skinnylatte Some commentators should know their SF city history before they shoot their mouths off about it.
@skinnylatte I loved living around the tenderloin in 2008. Lots of great restaurants and I never felt unsafe.
@skinnylatte Twenty-five years ago, I bought my first bike, a beautiful one from Jitensha Studio in Berkeley and took the midnight BART home. I was biking home and as I was crossing O'Farrell on Polk a car driver jumped a light and drove straight into me. I pedaled as fast as I could to get out of its way but the asshole ended up driving over my rear wheel. Two "sketchy characters" came to my help and to stop the driver who was driving away. They found a cop who drove me home. Blemish my ass.
