@shellhazard when I was working in Melbourne, I often encountered extremely transphobic discourse among the ‘women in tech’ folks. Discourse and knowledge of queer and trans issues felt pretty far behind, maybe more UK-aligned (incl casual transphobia). It’s pretty hard to get estrogen in many places especially for new immigrants.

Personally, the daily anti-Asian commentary I received in most major Aus cities was far more difficult to work with. But I do know people who moved there who really struggled to get gender-affirming care even compared to places in the US that aren’t CA.
