Re conferences that involve the U.S.: people should probably just do virtual ones if possible. If it’s not safe for others to enter the U.S. it’s also not safe for many people to leave it.
@skinnylatte sounds like a very US centric view, there are many other countries and citizens that can travel around freely.
The choice shouldn’t be virtual or not based on what the US is up to.
