There’s a thing on Netflix called K-foodie meets J-foodie and it’s basically the respective country’s biggest food nerds taking each other around their countries.

It’s very refreshing to see food media that’s not just ‘person from the west goes to Asia to talk either condescendingly or without much interesting knowledge about local food culture’.

Highly recommended

@skinnylatte there was once an amazing show called 'The thirsty traveler' which was a white guy doing this. He did it soooooo well though, sometimes a little goofy, but every episode was preparing a meal in accordance with local customs for where they were that episode.

@kwayk42 yeah, some of them have been great, very often it's been very uninspiring

@skinnylatte personally I'd be ok with more Gordon Ramsay but there's only so much of him to go around

@kwayk42 my favorite gordon ramsey was when he was in malaysia and thailand and malaysian and thai aunties were just staring at him, annoyed, when he was trying to cook their food not very well (while being arrogant as well)

@skinnylatte yeaaaaa.... He really only has one two speeds and when he's wrong he's never humble about it

@skinnylatte This is my favorite thing I'm watching right now.

@skinnylatte oh will have to check this out. Thanks!

@skinnylatte oh, a reason to pay for a month of Netflix maybe.

@skinnylatte both of their shows are on regular rotation in our house. We even have the Solitary Gourmet soundtrack and put it on when we are making food for friends.

@skinnylatte thank you, this looks like the kind of good tv I need right now

@skinnylatte Oh, this kinda reminds me of white spoon / black spoon (forgot the actual name of the show). But one of the things I loved about it was hearing the chefs talk about how someone was a famous Chinese chef or known as a traditional Korean cook, etc. And then compare techniques and the like. It was really fascinating. This sounds even better.
