Cookbook browsing today.....
What cookbook are you checking out today?
Having bought half a dozen packs of tofu yesterday, a staple because of my #NaturopathPrescribedDiet, what better cookbook to browse today than...
Asian Tofu, by Andrea Nguyen
Heaps of tofu recipes from Japan, China and SE Asia. Also, how to make your own tofu and tofu skins (yuba).
It has been a while since I visited this book, but now I am inspired to lift my tofu game.
@LifeTimeCooking This one has done a lot for me:
@uxmark I am glad that you like it and, even more so, that you use it.
I had a quick look at the deets online - lots of vegetable dishes included but few "vegetarian" ones ie that include some vegetarian protein. I could only find 13, at a quick browse, mostly tofu.
Still, wok cooking is awesome. Quick meals, one pan, very tasty.
@LifeTimeCooking @uxmark I’d say this book is great for technique and inspiration, but also that in general Chinese wok cooking isn’t vegetarian friendly unless one searches for vegetarian Buddhist Chinese cookbooks. We really don’t have much beyond tofu (and even then many of our tofu dishes are not veg). The Vegan Chinese cookbook and all of Hannah Che’s work including her newsletter would be good
@LifeTimeCooking @uxmark Kenji’s the wok is the first English language book to capture 80% of wok cooking skills and technique, and I always recommend it for that reason
@skinnylatte @LifeTimeCooking It’s helped me a lot
@skinnylatte @uxmark Yes, understood, Adrianna (having a Hong Kong Chinese person in our family). Still, it is one of my measures when assessing cookbooks.
I'll check out Hannah's books. Thanks for the rec.
@skinnylatte @LifeTimeCooking Thanks for sharing
@skinnylatte @LifeTimeCooking Also, just for fun, tonight I made pizza. No wok!
