"Raising the minimum wage would increase prices."
"Have the CEO and other suits take a pay cut instead of a pay rise and record profit-taking."
"errrr... Communism! Immigrants! Democrats!"
@tankgrrl At that point the whole thing automatically turns into a "Captain Haddock bellowing into a megaphone" scene in my head. "Visigoths! Bashi-bazouks! Anacoluthons!"
@tankgrrl Not sure that's true since almost no one is paid the minimum wage or below. So, it depends, on how high it was raised and the labor content of the product involved. In any event, I would be glad to pay higher prices to support my fellow citizens if that meant raising their wages.
@tmstreet The real point being that corporations who are taking record profits are saying things like this when confronted with raising wages. They blame wages, not their own greed for more profits.
But aside from that, a higher minimum wage is good for everyone, a rising tide floats all boats and the minimum wage is tied to better wages for everyone, even if only a small percentage are actually paid minimum.
@tankgrrl Don't forget stock buybacks.
