Wait, really? KOSA's dead? I thought it passed like yesterday or something? Does anyone have clear information as to what the current status of KOSA is?
EDIT: I'm told it passed the Senate, but is likely dead in the House, and both need to pass it for it to become legislation.
@thisismissem passed the senate, got killed in the house.
@janl I always thought the House came before the Senate.. (in australia the House passes stuff, then it goes to the Senate)
@thisismissem you’re modelled after the UK. The US is…less so.
@thisismissem @janl regular bills can go in either direction, it's just the bills for the raising of revenue that need to originate in the House
@thisismissem @janl no, in the US bills can originate in either house
@thisismissem passed by the Senate but not yet by the House of Representatives, I think
@thisismissem a version of it passed the Senate yesterday, but needed to pass both houses of Congress and this version is apparently is DOA in the House for some reason.
@thisismissem it's not dead until it's really dead
@ariadne @thisismissem And this sort of things tend to resurrect.
With another name, attached to another law or project, after enough time passes by… but they don’t really die, just remain dormant.
@thisismissem This post helps, although I and many feel that this is going to be a temporary pause and it will be back: https://mastodon.sdf.org/@joeo10/112888125224973061
