A neighbor just got their #Rivian #R1S delivered in the same color as our order. They ordered back in early 2021 but once they got their guide it only took three weeks to get the car. They love it so far. I am going to have to see if they’ll do an interview as they also have a Polestar and are all electrical now. I hope this is a good sign for ours coming soon
@tylopoda Love it. We’re a july 2021 preorder and slated for august/september. Can’t wait.
@stefanhartwig that’s fantastic. Have you driven one? I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited for a car, even my first Tesla in 2019.
@tylopoda I have! I got my First Mile test drive in an R1S back in March. It’s amazing to drive. Drives much smaller than it is, and the air suspension compared to my model 3 (2019 also!) was insane. I’ve never been this excited about any purchase!
@stefanhartwig That's awesome. Seems like in general it's roughly 5 months from First Mile drive to delivery. The air suspension is unbelievable! I couldn't believe how well it turns and the lack of any roll, especially compared to our Enclave which is similar size and even better than the Model 3 or Y. I didn't get a great sense of the acceleration on the crowded streets of Brooklyn, but it seemed like it drove much smaller than the size and weight would have you believe. I'm so excited too!
@tylopoda Yeah, I didn't floor it or anything either. I just can't wait to have that ground clearance and ready-for-anything capability in an EV. It's going to be amazing.
@stefanhartwig Are you at all worried about the charging network? Hoping that they will switch to Tesla’s NACS like Ford and GM?
@tylopoda I think the RAN is going to be great, but definitely worried about EA. I'm in the midwest and that's all we have for fast charging outside of tesla's network. The rumors (from 2021) about tesla potentially opening up their network was the nudge I needed to place an order — did it that day.
I do hope Rivian goes NACS, or they give us an adapter to purchase, or the Magic Dock gets really pervasive, really quick!
Overall, I mostly only worry about EA and phone as a key issues, haha!
@stefanhartwig I think between all those possibilities, it's pretty likely there will be some sort of access in the next couple of years which is good enough for me. CCS is decent enough that we can plan ahead for our few road trips a year until there is access to Tesla's network.
And hopefully RAN keeps expanding and picking up as well to the point that it becomes reliable for us. If the charging on a small set of road trips is the biggest concern for me, that’s pretty good for a car.
@stefanhartwig and I definitely can't live without phone as a key now that I'm used to it, but I hope they fix it soon! Hopefully it's all in software that can come OTA
@tylopoda yeah, seems like some people struggle and others haven’t had problems. i do know this will be the first thing that would drive my wife crazy though, haha. fingers crossed!
@tylopoda 100% agree here. playing the odds of any of these things happening makes it ok. hopefully RAN starts plugging holes where Tesla is NOT. that would be sweet.
@stefanhartwig it does seem like that’s a part of Rivian’s strategy with RAN. They are prioritizing spots near adventure locations but also places where there are holes in the charging networks. At least that’s what they told me
@tylopoda sure hope so! excited for the future.
