The enshittification of #Logitech begins - AI Prompt Builder in Options+
@adamhill @pluralistic Issa fuckin mouse why do you need AI
@adamhill @pluralistic TBF The enshittification of logitech already began more than 10 years ago when they switched to using microswitches lasting no more than 6-12 months.
@brezelradar @adamhill @pluralistic
Enshitted Logitech made enshitted G-Hub bloat software mandatory, enshitted my daily life years ago - I literally BANNED their best in class products just due to their snorkle driver policy.
FUCK MARKETING PEOPLE RUINING
THE WORK OF GENIUS ENGINEERS
@blausand @brezelradar @adamhill @pluralistic I'm just glad that all of my Logitech bits can be managed through "Logi Tune", which is at least not enshittified yet. I'm annoyed that Options+ is getting enshittified, I'm guessing Tune will be next.
@brezelradar @adamhill @pluralistic My first Logitech mouse lasted for ten years. the secound, third and fourth all died after almost exactly two and a half years, half a year after warranty expired.
There never was a fifth and probably never will be.
To me, Logitech mice are the most obvious cases of planned obsolescence.
@goblin @brezelradar @adamhill @pluralistic my Logitech trackball is probably nearly 30 years old and still works - just needs a cleaning once ever so often. (But since it doesn’t have pinch and zoom I’ve largely stopped using it.)

I've got and repaired a couple of G300 wired "gaming" mice, home and work. They must be getting on for 10 years old. They're large and ambidextrous - both hard requirements for me.
I've replaced a few microswitches to keep them going. The first 2 were cannibalised from a 90s serial/wireless logitech.
The (Windows-only) software is only needed to configure the buttons
@goblin @brezelradar @adamhill @pluralistic Oof, that's rough. I use nothing but Logitech because I've found them to be the best combination of quality and comfort, even recently. I had a couple of bum ones late last decade but my current home mouse has been going strong (12+ hours per day on a typical day) for about 4 years, and the one before that was a decade. I got tired of breaking travel mice so I switched that to a Logitech as well.
The software is hot garbage of course, but so far the hardware has been mostly okay for me, whether through personal luck or otherwise.
@adamhill @pluralistic showed up some time this morning. 60 megs for a use case I don’t want, didn’t enable, and didn’t ask for. And if it’s anything like the mouse driver, it will slowly balloon to several gigs over time.
As a drafter I can tell you this happened a long, long time ago.
Do not buy #logitech.
@adamhill @pluralistic this seems like a way to data mine their users. Where they click etc.
Buy the stock not the mouse
@adamhill @pluralistic
And all these comments lead me to ask: what are y'all using for mice? I agree that Logitech's software and device longevity leave a LOT to be desired, but I haven't had much better luck with their competition (e.g. Corsair, Razer).
