So I just walked in to CNN interviewing an ICE agent who says he’s “disgusted” when he hears narratives of sweeps, etc. he says he’s just there to arrest the criminals (and CNN mentions some particular rapist).
You know, in that case, why don’t we give the proper visas to everyone else already here. We know they’re working, and we know they’re needed, and they’re even paying taxes.
CNN report continues something along the lines of:
“Even Mayor Eric Adam thinks the sanctuary laws should be changed…”
And then appends at the very, very end that Trump’s “border zar” (what is this word anyways? ) says they might deport more than just criminals. (Like they said they would).
Hey, maybe I missed the beginning of a nuanced report. I mean, I just walked in.
But I feel like what I saw smelled like someone was trying to sell me something.
I guess the “even mayor Eric Adams” was a give-away, like that gentleman is some bastion of liberal thought. He’s not popular with his party.
@astroPug sounds like CNN has gone all the way 卍
Yeah, several times now I’ve observed that they’ve got a story to tell that doesn’t match the reality I see.
And in addition, they’re not thorough.
I am not an expert at the topics they cover. They are. They’re the reporters.
So I expect them to give me the background and numbers I need. Instead, I find that I have to Google for people who do in-depth reporting to find the background that would be useful. I’ll find that in, say, a ProPublica article, etc.
I expect their slant to become more right due to their ownership and the current presidency.
However, the big media outlets have always had a slant. I remember, leading up the invasion of Iraq…
I think what irritates me so much, really makes me mad, is that they got coverage that examines the authorities critically but then, they also simultaneously push authority-driven narratives.
I feel like it’s subversive.
People watch it and think “these guys are honest. They examine.”
And that makes things like the ICE coverage so much more effective as propaganda.
