Do I have friends that know something over #Openstack?

@mcfly It depends on what you're going to ask :D

@jay I am trying to understand how easy migrations from us cloud providers to Openstack are. Might have done questions there.

Mind me following your and send some questions your way?

Interesting. Usually people want to do this the other way around. 😄

I have exported QCOW2 images and imported into hyper scalers. So my guess is as long as your cloud provider gives you a way to export to QCOW2 or VMDK, it should be just as simple.

Good luck!

@badnetmask +1 at the "being surprised" thing. We used OpenStack at work ca 2012-2017 and the stewardship felt worse and worse and the thing become worse. I have heard *some* voices that it became better again later, but my goodwill had been burnt forever - unless you had a whole team dedicated to just doing OpenStack (and migrating major versions every 6 or 12 months, madness) - it was more work than it was worth it. But maybe I am being unfair and they got it together... @mcfly @jay

@wink @badnetmask @jay that does not sound good not promising.

Each infra is very different, for sure. OpenStack has been rock solid for us, and we have thousands of hypervisors. Granted, we do have a dedicated team, but we don't spend 100% of our time with OpenStack itself.

My comment about people choosing to migrate to the public cloud was more related to the hype of it than anything else. When done well, OpenStack can be better and cheaper, for sure. YMMV.
