@angusm technically not an example of enshittification because Windows has always been shit. Still, sounds like it’s still getting worse.
@detritus I use the term loosely, of course, but to me the essence of #enshittification is "lock-in + degradation”. No matter how bad something is to begin with, if it is deliberately made worse in order to extract a profit from a more or less captive audience, that's enshittification.
That, at least, is my understanding, but I'll let @pluralistic be the final arbiter. And if you want to propose a more specialized term like, say, “pessimization”, I'll go along with that too.

I even thought "software enshittification" could be relevant at e.g. LibrePlanet next year, but now I'm thinking it is so self-evident that it will be old news by then. @fsf WDYT?
it's funny that I started out by thinking that nonfree software is already full of shit to begin with, but enshittification is like further adorning and seasoning the thing with additional fresh shit

I can see the FSF or similar orgs repeatedly and emphatically pointing out that open source software can't be enshittified unless there's a CLA allowing relicensing.
