It’s frustrating when people ask me to enable StopTheMadness support for Safari web apps. The problem is Apple, not me! Apple chose to support content blockers and web extensions but not app extensions in Safari web apps. But it’s difficult to explain the technical difference to users.
That’s my reward for supporting Safari back in 2018 when hardly anyone else did.
@lapcatsoftware I don't understand it either. I thought Safari extensions should be possible in web apps starting from iOS 18. I filed a bug report, but it hasn't been addressed. Why aren't browser extensions possible in SFSafariViewController? Any hope for that @xeenon ?
@davidjohnson @xeenon Glad to hear that. I would be very happy if extensions were available in more places. What exactly is a web app so that it works with iOS 18? Adding the website to the home screen is not enough?
@HOsy @davidjohnson Extensions are only supported on macOS web apps currently, with Safari 18. iOS web apps do not currently support extensions.
