❝ Former President Donald Trump has also previously called for eliminating the Electoral College, calling it a "disaster for democracy" because he believed, incorrectly, it was responsible for former President Barack Obama's defeat of Mitt Romney in 2012.
After Trump won the Electoral College despite losing the popular vote in 2016, Trump supporters have proclaimed it crucial to the American system and the Founding Fathers' wishes. ❞

@inthehands @fawfulfan I remember in 2000 the reverse of what happened was possible: Gore winning the EC but losing the PV. This post from Michael Podhorzer includes a useful graph showing the swings in EC bias.

Especially good closing paragraphs.
@inthehands The founding fathers wanted to ensure landed, white men's interest would still be represented even if the majority (men who didn't own land... because women and non-white men weren't even in the equation) were to start making laws that were in the interest of everyone, at the expense of the wealthy.
In that respect, the electoral college is doing exactly what it intended, and what the founding fathers intended.
The founding fathers were assholes, and the electoral college should be tossed.
