Hey nerds. What's a good, but inexpensive, pair of wired (earbuds, etc.) that are good on flights? Don't necessarily need ANC (seems like only wireless have that?) but I'd like good sound isolation.

I want wired for:
a) plugging into onboard entertainment
b) no batteries (because I don't fly that often and I don't want to worry about batteries dying over time)

MastodonCM Harrington (@octothorpe@mastodon.online)@jackbrewster@hachyderm.io These are the IEMs you want… https://www.amazon.com/Linsoul-Kiwi-Ears-Cadenza-Interchangeable/dp/B0BKTBN5N4?th=1 $35 BOOM.

@jackbrewster 1MORE SonoFlow Active Noise Cancelling Headphones,
Supports wired or Bluetooth.

@tankgrrl Trying to avoid any batteries if I can. I’d love to be able to leave the headphones in a go bag for flights. And not worry about the batteries completely dying.

@jackbrewster oh, duh. Reading comprehension, I don't gots.

@jackbrewster
Many if not most ANC headphones have a headphone jack to plug them in along with Bluetooth connectivity. I can’t speak to the sound quality, but I bought my son a pair of JBL headphones, Tune 760NC. Sadly nearly everyday use meant the battery stopped taking a charge before the warranty was out. Getting a replacement wasn’t a problem though. My Sony WH-1000XM3 were not cheap, sound incredible, have amazing noise cancellation, and are still going strong after many years

@jackbrewster I have very basic sony earbuds (with a silicone tip), could do the job but I did not test those on a plane since I use ANC for that (and still hear the plane with it).

@jackbrewster I don't know about inexpensive but these are the earbuds I usually take on flights:

I can vouch that they work nearly as well as ones with ANC but they are wired with no batteries. They are truly pro quality, the dynamic range and frequency response is very good. But yeah, not cheap, right now looks like they are $187 directly from manufacturer. But this one pair, which I've been treating gently, has lasted me 12 years so far.

@jackbrewster Koss Plug should fit your needs nicely. Cheap (under $20!!!), sound decent, wired, and do notable passive noise reduction. I owned a set many years ago. They're also super small/light. Great for travel.
