But on a serious note, the #TikTokBan will literally make thousands of people lose their livelihoods. Not that it is important or anything right?
@liztai I’m definitely not arguing that a ban is the right move. But simultaneously: Job loss cannot itself be a reason not to do something.
If we stop mining coal, miners might be out of a job. But the preservation of those jobs is not worth the continued destruction of the climate.
@philip Problem is this was done not for data privacy reasons but is a move to please the China hawks. If it is indeed for privacy reasons, the same should be done to FB and X etc. Also the demand and forceful move to grab TikTok the co will ensure a big economic impact. It will cause other countries to think twice before investing in the US just because it is foreign owned.
This is a bad move also for the land of free speech - it shows that the US is no longer that.
@philip Mind you I dont even have a Tiktok acc and the app was used to incite violence in my country. But this whole thing is not a great move, geopolitically.
