I am going to regret asking this I am sure, but what in the world is happening in #Britain?
I feel like labelling it far-right protests seem simplistic
Ps: I just want to add lest I am misunderstood, that I think migrants are being an easy target for the frustration bubbling in Britain. Just exactly what that frustration is I am not very clear ...
@liztai Not sure what you mean exactly - there has been some rioting by the far right this week. Some of it was pretty scary and violent. There is a broader level of anger abroad and looking for an outlet after 14 years of continuous austerity, the far-right are trying to harness that.
@moh_kohn this has been my impression so far. I'm thrown off by the media calling it "far right protests". I think that's too simplistic. I'd say what you said - the far right groups trying to reap this anger.
We have a similar movement in Malaysia.
If the govt doesn't do anything to make the lives of the poor/working class better it'll continue to happen as they are taken advantage of by these parties. (Speaking from my Malaysian experience.Tho we're not at riot stage yet.)
@liztai England is in a super bad way. A lot of towns outside of London don't have libraries or youth clubs any more, even some big cities no longer have council-provided childcare. Everything is privatised and expensive and we just had massive food price inflation on top. Even the roads are falling apart, and the trains are late or cancelled a lot.
