YouTube video: Have you heard of a de-Googled phone?
Me: Do you mean a Huawei?
@liztai I have a Huawei tablet. It's cheap but very nice. I don't really miss Google's software there but some other apps I want (e.g. online course) require Google's infrastructure.
@gombang I have a Huawei phone. I'm actually impressed by how hardy it is because I've dropped it like a bazillion times. No lagging in performance either. I've been using it since 2019 so I'm actually impressed it lasted this long. My iPhone ironically lasted only 2 years lol. (my fault as i kept dropping it haha)
@badri @gombang Honestly, the whole ban/deGoogling of Huawei gave it so much brand recognition in my part of the world. Before that I couldn't care less what brand my phone was. After the whole thing, I realised they made a whole phletora of things like your WLL phones and 5G thingamajics in Malaysia lol
@badri @liztai I think it's reasonable for Western nations to have national security concerns about China's Internet-connected products. Third world countries? It depends. Arab or South American nations maybe won't be very concerned. India has history of conflicts with China, no? I'll say it's good to be cautious at least.
Indonesia? At least ordinary citizens don't have to worry. My own government is more of a threat
Back to Huawei products: I have bought two of them so far, they are fine devices.
