Hashtags are a weak discovery mechanism. They don't replace good onboarding and discovery.
And an eyeroll that Black Twitter users usually don't verbalize before they leave Mastodon: lots of white folk on Mastodon try to 'splain to Black users how hashtags work, and how to use them for discovery. These helpful folk are oblivious to the fact that Black Twitter was there when hashtag discovery has born, and created many of the iconic hashtags

But Black folk show up on Mastodon and say "Discovery here sucks and there are no Black folk." and in response people 'splain hashtags to us?
Black Twitter is strong in the hashtag game. We know how to use hashtags to find posts and people. We said what we said.
