Or, to quote John Gall from Systemantics:
"The fail-safe theorem: when a fail-safe system fails, it fails by failing to fail safe".
@norootcause finally I now know how much wood a woodchuck could chuck
I wonder if anyone saved off “HOW TO USE CONSCIOUS PURPOSE WITHOUT WRECKING EVERYTHING” By John Gall — it used to be on Tom Gilb’s site, but the link no longer works… It was the transcript of a keynote John Gall gave at a Gilbfest in 2012 or so… So good! And came decades after Systemantics. Gall was a pediatrician, and (he told me in email) wrote Systemantics to understand systems :)
@RuthMalan @igb Very cool!!!
@billseitz do you get more than the table of contents?
@billseitz nice… will take a look again when i’m back at my desk :)
@RuthMalan I turned it into a decent epub, if you haven't started reading the PDF.....
@RuthMalan TIL that John Gall (a) died 10 years ago, and (b) was a pediatrician.
I wonder if he knew Samuel Shem?

@RuthMalan @igb @norootcause Note: I was there. Such a lovely man. :)
@RuthMalan @igb @norootcause PS Upon re-reading the transcript, it reminds me of Scharmer's Theory U. See also "Presence" by Jaworski, Senge, Scharmer and Flowers. Claude says: https://claude.site/artifacts/39be427d-29d3-4d79-95c7-045a73249b07,
@igb Systemantics got renamed “The Systems Bible” in the most recent edition, and I highly recommend it. It is astonishing how much applies to us given that it was originally written by a pediatrician in the 70s.
@norootcause @igb it’s so good. One those books you can just open to a random page and laugh and cry.
@igb "The motor of the world will stop itself! Because you weren't paying attention!"
- Who Is John Gall?
(imagining Atlas Shrugged as a systems theory polemic)
