The culture of this app gets me every time. When you open the ban popup it has this animated gif of some Thor meme at the top, with Chris Hemmingsworth coming crashing down as ADMIN on top of some poor obliterated creature that goes BANNED as it disintegrates.

@pospi Huh, I was confused by the gamer reference, but apparently, this does originate from StarCraft, where the mods had a hammer icon.

It's core to Discord though- it started as a voice chat utility app for gaming clans and the 'ubermensch' / 'server Gods' ideologies and metaphors of domination permeate everything about it. This is what makes it such a fucker to administer, 'cos the permissions model is comprehensive to a fault and based on LAN server administration metaphors that are technical and fiddly.
The server admin role is literally called "supreme overlord" for shit's sake
