I've to start learning how to cook stuff like Steamed Fish, baked/grilled proteins and whatnot for health reasons and bcos I'm tired of picking where to eat or tapau from lol but honestly... the most daunting task is buying/getting the proteins (i.e. Fish) themselves cos bruh idk what to say or ask for xD It'd be a nice hurdle to clear tho lol
@irfan do you have a fishmonger nearby at a pasar? I usually do ikan bawal (black one) but white is also fine
Ask them to clean it for you
When you get home, put salt on both sides, steam for about 10 min (for small fish), 12 min for medium fish. It’s done when the flesh is flaky when you use chopsticks to poke or pull.
You can add any condiment you want (kicap or sambal) after steaming
@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io thanks for the advice! yes there is a fishmonger nearby that my mom frequents to. Before buying, I'd better check out the recipe first and see what else I'd need (I'm thinking something like this https://resepichenom.com/resepi/ikan-siakap-stim-limau-ala-thai/show, but gosh maybe that's a lil too ambitious judging from my "unfamiliarity" from what's being said in the article haha)
@irfan that's a good recipe but i suggest just steaming first without sos and then just adding the kicap and limau separately when you are eating
get the texture and technique right then start adding the sauce
@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io yesss even the video version of the recipe here seems to be doing that. I suppose that's why my mom had told me that steamed fish is a beginner-friendly recipe haha.
