Hey, I'll be in London for next week. Where should I go ?

Is Hampstead Heath a good choice? Is there somewhere nearer the Barbican that's just as good?

@whereistanya Hampstead Heath definitely and it is not very far by tube

@whereistanya The London Wetland Centre might be worth a look if you have time, though it's a train then bus ride from the city centre wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/lon

@TheoEsc Oh that looks amazing, thank you. It might end up being too much of a trek, but hmm it's still only an hour from the Barbican, so maybe! (It's funny how much "and then you get on a bus" increases the perceived length of a journey. Same in New York.)

@whereistanya oh cool, see you there!

Alas I know nothing about birds. There’s big parks not too far away though

@whereistanya I don’t do birding specifically, but Hampstead Heath, London Wetland Centre, and Epping Forest are all large outdoor areas I enjoy visiting. Also we live near Hampstead Heath, so if you come by give a shout!

@flooey Oh, brilliant, will do. And thank you!

@whereistanya I'm not a birder as such but you may find the RSPB site helpful. I just had a look and if you're up for a bit of a trip the Rainham marshes are RSPB and about an hour on train from the Barbican

Kew Gardens is also lovely in its own right but also has birds! kew.org/read-and-watch/birds-k

www.kew.orgThe birds in our gardens | KewKew Gardens and Wakehurst are alive with a diverse range of incredible birds.

@sally Thank you! Wow, Rainham Marshes looks lovely.

@sally Oh, and Kew Gardens too of course, but I already knew that one existed :-)
