I think it is important to focus on what is the purpose of the scene. If the scene can do what it needs to do without some of the characters, they can be backgrounded or tossed from the scene.

No, I wouldn't want to give anyone the idea that there was significant representation. I hope the tiny amount there is a authentic, but I wouldn't want to draw attention in case it isn't.

29 How do you handle foreshadowing? How do you navigate building up to the ‘big reveal’?
I briefly tried fiveshadowing, with very poor results.
Now, I just try to position the characters interior, via inner monologue, so that when the shocker happens, it makes sense to the reader how they can immediately take advantage of the situation.

I am seldom accompanied by anything more than a glass of spirits.
I don't have any cats, unless you count the miniature Displacer Beast. But she has to stay in her enclosure for her own safety and that of the other miniature monsters.

27 What’s the strangest situation or place where you’ve written?
I was in the middle of an interplanar teleportation when I had a really great idea for a side character in a project I was working on. I had to jot it down in the margin of the scroll that held the teleport incantation.

26 About which format or style choices are you the most uncertain?
I demarcate paragraphs by leaving an empty line, but don't indent. I like the way it looks, but I've gotten many complaints that it isn't standard and it's distracting.

25 Describe your workflow if it had to be 100% analog.
The only thing digital in my workflow is the finger I point at the wood in the fireplace to magically light a fire. It sets the mood perfectly.

23 What’s the most memorable encounter you’ve had with a reader?
So many great stories in response to this one. I wish I had a good one. The only encounter I remember was with the reader with couldn't wait to get my book, but then hated it and DNF'ed it so hard I felt it through the Internet.
