I don't intend to criticise Jason Stanley or Timothy Snyder for going to Canada because I don't know their personal circumstances. They haven't been detained, they haven't been tortured but they've made the decision to leave. They have concluded that even being senior academics at an elite university isn't going to protect them. That's a pretty damning indictment of supposedly independent institutions.
