Join us on 8th April at Vivid Projects for a VCV Rack Creative Coding Circle. VCV Rack is a free and open source software modular synthesiser for creating algorithmic and generative music.
We will explore basic usage of the software, and explore the vast library of virtual modules that allow you to create complex, intricate soundscapes.
You will then have time to experiment, learn with others, and share what you've learnt with other attendees.
No coding experience necessary, 18+ only.
Requirements:
* A Windows, Mac, or Linux laptop (sorry, Chromebooks, phones or tablets will not work)

Getting back into #vcvrack this week with some sounds inspired by the hazy late-March sunshine we've been having in the UK.

I finished a new #ElectronicMusic piece last night. It's more #drum_and_bass made with #Bitwig and features a #VCVRack melodic lead that is a patch based around #Plaits with a #Juno style chorus (all in VCV). The #AccessVirus provides a nice drone. My #SealEggs Nautical Delay rides over the percussion for swashy delay and the #ShermanikFilterbank brings extra grime and dark colouration to a #303 inspired bass line. I had fun making it, but am missing my horn. I am not sure if this is #BonkWave

Having not looked at #vcvrack for a little while, I went back to it and found that several 4ms hardware products are now faithfully recreated in the vcvrack software.
Pingable Envelope Generator (£350), Ensemble Oscillator (£290), and Dual Looping Delay (£380) to name three.
I know software is not the same as having physical knobs, but you can save £1000+ as these are **FREE** in vcvrack

In this video you can see how we arranged the huge speaker with the projector to create this living, breathing sound sculpture, that creates such a calm, meditative atmosphere.
One laptop is running @vcvrack, the other laptop runs Tooll3 with a patch that also has two states.
Both are everchanging...
(Algo|Afro) Futures presents the return of the Creative Coding Circles for 2025! These will be a series of free relaxed and casual meetups for Black artists and musicians interested in learning about live coding for music and visuals.
Across three sessions beginning 25th March and taking place at Vivid Projects in Birmingham, UK we will be sampling beginner-friendly programming languages for live coding music and visuals, including Strudel, Hydra and VCV Rack.
This is a great opportunity to network with other creatives, make new connections, and learn about creative coding together in a safe and inclusive environment. This is also a great way to sample live coding ahead of the relaunch of the (Algo|Afro) Futures mentoring programme later this year.
These sessions will be led by (Algo|Afro) Futures founder Antonio Roberts @hellocatfood and Tyger Blue @tygerblue

Now that I've finished the 190 page Teletype manual, it really feels like this is something I should put on my resume.
"Flower of Life"
First the tendrils go exploring and then the leaves come out.
The forest awakens, a gentle breeze moves the petals.
Life ensues.
Later in life, some of the colour has worn off, things get slower.
Contemplation settles in with thoughts of Zen and Wisdom.
Calm and Measured.
