Time to check out this year’s #Eurovision entries.
#Albania is not bringing it.
#Serbia entered a lame af ballad. Neither them nor Albania have any chance of winning, let alone being listened to after the contest is over.
#Slovenia with another ballad AND it’s depressing af.
Skipped this after 15s.
FINALLY!!! A weird song from #Estonia in English about a lot of Italian things and called ‘Espresso Machiato’.
This is weird, fun, & catchy!
#France is doing another ballad.
The singer is suspended 50ft above a field. It looks scary af & she’s killing it.
That’s the only interesting thing about this song.
Methinks France doesn’t want to win/host next year.
#Malta gets credit for a funny intro. It’s not a ballad & has reggaeton beats.
Not bad.
#Greece with ANOTHER depressing ballad (and a power ballad at that).
Another one with no chance of winning out being listened to after the show.
#Georgia’s kicking it old school broadway style.
Not bad, it might be great live performance.
#Spain’s ok. It’s another pop vocal over euro beats entry. The contest has a couple of these every year - not bad but not memorable either.
#Italy with a pop song straight out of the 70s accompanied by a funny video with a great story!
#SanMarino with a cheesy song that has something to do with tomato sauce & DJs.
Emphasis on ‘cheesy’, which is a big plus.
A poppy edm number from #Iceland with some folk violin thrown in.
Ok, not great but points for not singing in English.
#Croatia has a Disney villain singing a song called ‘Poison Cake’.
Not bad, reluctantly.
#Ireland sent a eurodance song about the space dog Laika from a kid’s perspective.
It’s better than a ballad.
#Latvia’s got hikers who turn into Galadriels with wire sculptures on their faces.
I have no idea what’s going on, which is usually a good sign.
#Norway’s doing some serious emoting leading to a jaunty but meh chorus.
#Cyprus is weird.
Weird is good.
With a touch of old school epic trance. I’ll listen to this again just for the trancey stabs.
#Belgium’s doing 90s trance too, and the singer hits a high note that should kill live.
Pardon me while I bust out some glow sticks.
#Germany’s entry is a live performance, which is promising.
Not a bad euro pop song with a viola.
#Montenegro is way intense & serious.
Pass.
#Ukraine with some folky 70s pop showtuney number with retro outfits - interesting. I hope they have a great performance planned.
#Switzerland sent a dreamy poppy ditty. I need another listen.
Israel with another ballad.
Meh.
#Portugal sent a chill out 70s pop group.
It’s growing on me.
#Sweden with the 2nd memorable tune after Estonia! A catchy tune about saunas with a weird performance.
This is the kind of thing people sing drunk with their friends.
It’s telling that the only lyrics from last night’s #Eurovision entries that I remember are ‘Espresso Machiatto’. I like songs that are earworms, for better or worse, and language is irrelevant (case in point: Finland’s Cha Cha Cha from ‘23).
I’m also convinced that any country sending a sad ballad has no desire to win and host next year’s competition. I haven’t looked into the finances of hosting but it has to result in a big influx of tourism, no?
Speaking of Kaarija’s ‘Cha cha cha’, that was my first year watching #Eurovision and that video & song threw me for a loop before becoming my favorite. I was wondering wtaf is going on throughout the whole performance, wasn’t sure if I liked how it ended - and I couldn’t get the damn song out of my head!

@ArpComics oh that sounds good!
@ArpComics The bridge Is as Beatles-y as It gets; moreover, Lucio Cursi confirms Sanremo's unwritten rule of old: more often than not, the best songs get the second place ;-)
@maxl This is my 3rd year (I’m a yank & got hip thx to the Will Ferrell movie) and I’ve seen that. Last year I wanted Baby Lasagna to win (still happy with Nemo’s well-deserved victory) but it’s been Aiko’s song that hasn’t left my rotation yet.
I’m hoping that Italy’s got a great performance planned, them & San Marino have a couple of great throwback pop songs.
