I'm planning some #EnPleinAir #PaintingWithYarn and following the theme I thought a Derbyshire quarry might be a good subject. This is a #Millersdale Quarry (now a nature reserve) just off the #MonsalTrail I had a nosy around today as the morning light was good - some great shadows. A bit chilly to sit around today, but an option when the weather warms. NB #PhonePhotos so not brilliant!

On the right side of the street there is this totally black building. You can dance there. I did not notice it until I had to put down the colours.

I love working with watercolours. I’m still honing my skills, but I’m confident it’ll come with time and practice.

This piece captures the last rays of sunlight on Vlieland—ghostly figures emerging around the fire house. It was a race against the light, so I had to paint quickly!

For today's #ArtAdventCalendar, a very important little painting. This was painted #EnPleinAir, on the second day of a course in #PaletteKnife painting. The weather was closing in, and I had to paint fast to cover the canvas before the rain got to it. It's the best thing I did all week.

So I learnt that I have to work fast. By all means, look, think, try to be considered, but once the thinking is done, move fast.

For today's #ArtAdventCalendar, a fragment of a ruin in the park in Chester, painted #EnPleinAir. I didn't attempt to include the teenagers scrambling on it for some of the time I was there!

I got sworn at by a squirrel, and it began to drizzle. But the sundial is instantly recognisable to one who knows it, and not so long ago, I wouldn't even have attempted it, especially on a day when my washes weren't drying!

Even, perhaps, a #silentsunday (except for the poem!)

This street photo was taken today, September 1, 2024. The view is of a residential community of James Bay. Only a few cars and tree-hidden homes are visible. The photo was taken to capture the stately mature trees lining the road. Several of them are already flashing various stages of their autumn colours of reds, russets, yellows and oranges, though some are still proudly displaying their summer greens! And a glorious clear blue, still summer sky highlights the image.

Here's some of what I was doing at #Sketchfest this last weekend. This is an event which is run in Woodbridge in Suffolk every year. There are demos and workshops, but for me, the free time to do more painting and sketching is almost as valuable. I try to work fast, make more mistakes more quickly, and move on. I can work slowly back home in the studio.
