Howdy, @tailscale! I'm a Hachyderm infra admin. We use to stitch things together across clouds to make Hachyderm work. With yesterday's election results, in the event some kind of law were to be enacted restricting LGBTQIA+ content in the US, would we be in breach of the tailscale.com/terms and have our service terminated?

If yes, what are our self-hosting or alternative options?

tailscale.comTailscaleThese Tailscale Terms of Service (together with the Order Form, this "Agreement") govern Customer's access to and use of the Tailscale Solution. This Agreement forms a binding legal agreement between Tailscale Inc. and Customer.

@tailscale Thanks for the response. This is a super nice sentiment but doesn't directly answer the question. I'll have to interpret that as "if we receive a request from law enforcement/court to shut a customer's service down because of suspected 'illegal' content, we will have to comply".

Which is totally understandable - you are a business that exists in a legal context. Again, I appreciate the answer and engagement.

@tailscale so after doing a tiny bit more research, I found that TS is based in Toronto, which imo reduces some of the risk. US courts won't have jurisdiction in Canada and would need to coordinate with Canadian courts.

If we can also select our DERP servers and restrict them to non US endpoints, it seems this would significantly reduce our exposure to US law, since we only use TS in our backend.

It's not zero risk, but less than if you were a US company facing a US court order.
